Sustainable Wastewater Management Using Coppice Willow Energy Plantations
April 13th, 2016 | Wednesday, Session III 8:15 to 10:00 AM

Christopher Johnston (Project Leader – Environment and Renewable Energy Centre) leads the research which underpins land-based renewable energy systems at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI). Prior to joining AFBI in 2012, Chris gained seven years experience in the Renewables industry and currently holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Food & Agricultural Biotechnology. The Environment and Renewable Energy Centre (EREC) at AFBI Hillsborough opened in January 2009 and coordinates the research being conducted across AFBI sites in areas relevant to renewable energy and associated waste water management using SRC willow energy crops. In doing so, the EREC assists the agri-food industry in maximising the potential of renewable energy and supports technology transfer activities as well as providing visiting groups (Farmers, Research, Industry, Government, Educational..) with a wide range of information on many aspects of renewable energy production and its use.
