When a poplar-based renewable fuel and chemical industries develops it will require a critical mass of poplar growers to supply feedstock for the new industry. To aid current and future growers, Washington State University Extension produced a comprehensive guide to growing poplar as a bioenergy feedstock. Titled, A Grower’s Guide to Short-Rotation Hybrid Poplar as a Bioenergy Crop in the Pacific Northwest, the book covers topics including:
- Site selection criteria
- Plantation design
- Planting activities
- Weed, insect, pest, and disease control
- Water and nutrient management
- Harvesting logistics
- Production economics
