Bioproduct Research Centers
Biomass for Renewable Bioproducts
In addition to biofuels and bioenergy, research is underway at a number of centers to convert biomass to bio-based chemicals for the manufacture of many products that we use in our everyday lives.
“Biofuels and bio-based products offer the potential of homegrown American resources that can reduce our dependence on imported oil and also cut carbon emissions.”
– Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz
Bioproducts Discover and Development Centre
At the Bioproducts Discover and Development Centre hosted by the University of Guelph, researchers and engineers collaborate to enhance bioproduct commercialization. Research activities focus on bioplastics, green composites, sustainable packaging, and co-products from the biofuel industry.
Center for Biorenewable Chemicals
The Center for Biorenewable Chemicals is developing a foundation for a renewable resource-based chemical industry. The center is building the knowledge and technology base as well as the necessary integration to transform the chemical industry. Located at Iowa State University, the center is funded by the National Science Foundation.
Ohio Bioproducts Innovation Center
The Ohio Bioproducts Innovation Center at Ohio State University is expediting the commercialization of bioproducts by conducting research and developing the bioproduct supply chain.
