In 2011, the USDA awarded $40 million to Advanced Hardwood Biofuels Northwest (AHB) to research the development of an advanced biofuel industry using regionally produced hybrid poplar trees as the primary feedstock. As a consortium of university and industry partners, AHB integrates research, education, and extension to support new biofuel and bio-based chemical industries in the Pacific Northwest.

In this webinar, AHB’s Principal Investigator, Rick Gustafson from the University of Washington, shares research updates from the AHB project and provides an overview on the successes and challenges for developing biofuel and biochemical industries.
