SUMMARY:Wednesday Webinar: Market Opportunities for Hybrid Poplar
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, February\, 10\, 2016 | 10:00 am PST \nTo attend register at: http://goo.gl/forms/RieUsKvLal \nAdvanced Hardwoods Biofuels (AHB) is working to develop a Pacific Northwest renewable energy industry that provides transportation fuels derived from plantation-grown hybrid poplars. The economics of this industry are very competitive with the petroleum industry when crude sells for $100 a barrel and more. But with current market conditions and prices far below this range\, the AHB commercialization phase will be delayed for some time. In the interim\, the poplar veneer industry is making good strides in the Pacific Northwest. This initiative will help prepare the region for the eventual emergence of the renewable fuels market. The webinar will be co-presented by Columbia Forest Products and GreenWood Resources and will cover: (1) Poplar veneer manufacturing\, (2) Poplar silviculture required to produce high-quality logs for peeling\, and (3) Poplar clonal selection to optimize good veneer recovery. \n  \nWho Should Attend? Landowners\, municipalities growing poplar\, wood product industries\, and academic researchers \nPresenters: Dr. Brian Stanton\, Chief Science Officer and managing director\, GreenWood Resources. Tim Schallich\, Vice President\, Columbia Forest Products. \nSponsored by: Washington State University Extension with funding from Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Competitive Grant no. 2011-68005-30407 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). \nHow to access the webinar: \nPlease register for the webinar at http://goo.gl/forms/RieUsKvLal. \nOn the day of the webinar you can join in at http://breeze.wsu.edu/growinggreen/. \nThis webinar is part of the AHB Hardwood Biofuels Webinar Series. Find the series including archived presentations online at http://hardwoodbiofuels.org/webinars/. \n  \nWant to be notified about future webinars? \nJoin our mailing list at http://hardwoodbiofuels.org/connect-with-ahb/. \n  \nQuestions? \nContact Marina Heppenstall marina.heppenstall@wsu.edu | 425-741-9953 \n  \nReasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities and special needs who contact Nora Haider at nora.haider@wsu.edu\, 425-741-9962 at least two weeks prior to the event.
