SUMMARY:Wednesday Webinar: Trees of the Future – Genetic Engineering as a Tool for Improving Feedstock
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, January 11\, 2016 | 10:00 am PST \nTo attend register at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeoFcza \nGenetic engineering (GE) is direct\, DNA-level modification. Although AHB’s poplars are interspecies hybrids\, they are not engineered in this modern sense. In the future\, however\, GE could be a useful tool for improving the sustainability and economic benefits from poplar and other trees used as bioenergy feedstocks. In this webinar\, Amy Klocko and Steve Strauss from the Oregon State University will share information about progress in the field of genetic engineering of trees\, including their own work on means for biocontainment of GE and exotic trees to facilitate public and regulatory acceptance. \n  \nWho Should Attend?\nResearchers\, bioenergy and wood industry representatives\, policy makers\, environmental professionals\, community leaders\, students\, and extension professionals. \nPresenter: Dr. Amy Klocko & Dr. Steve Strauss\, Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society\, Oregon State University \nSponsored by: Washington State University Extension with funding from Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Competitive Grant no. 2011-68005-30407 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). \n  \nHow to access the webinar:\nPlease register for the webinar at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeoFcza \nOn the day of the event\, you can access the webinar at http://breeze.wsu.edu/growinggreen/ \nThis webinar is part of the AHB Hardwood Biofuels Webinar Series. Find the series including archived presentations online at http://hardwoodbiofuels.org/webinars/. \nWant to be notified about future webinars?\nJoin our mailing list at http://hardwoodbiofuels.org/about/connect-with-ahb/ \nQuestions? Contact Noelle Hart noelle.hart@wsu.edu | 425-741-9962 \n  \nReasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities and special needs who contact Noelle Hart at noelle.hart@wsu.edu\, 425-741-9962 at least two weeks prior to the event. Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination. Evidence of noncompliance may be reported through your local Extension office.
