SUMMARY:Wednesday Webinar: Biofuels and Wildlife
DESCRIPTION:AHB Wednesday Webinar:\nBiofuels and Wildlife\nWednesday\, April 22\, 2015 | 11:30am Pacific Time\n \nTo attend register at: http://breeze.wsu.edu/wildlife/event/registration.html \nEnsuring adequate wildlife habitat and habitat connectivity are important sustainability requirements for bioenergy feedstock production systems. Diverse habitats and connectivity support wildlife and species richness. Perennial bioenergy crops\, such as short-rotation poplar trees\, have potential to increase biodiversity in the agriculture landscape by providing areas of shelter and cover to wildlife. \nIn this special Earth Day webinar\, we are bringing together researchers from across the United States to present information on biodiversity in bioenergy feedstock production systems. Brian Moser of the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Institute will discuss changes in biodiversity at four poplar study sites in the Pacific Northwest. Robert Fletcher from the University of Florida will contrast forest and agriculture feedstock’s effects on wildlife in the Southeastern United States. \nWhat covered? \n\nBiodiversity on poplar bioenergy plantations in the Pacific Northwest\nImpacts to biodiversity in the Southeast’s pine forests\nEcological effects of using corn as a bioenergy feedstock\nSpecies responses to biomass production\n\nRead the complete presentation abstracts. \nWhen: Wednesday\, April 22\, 2015 | 11:30pm – 12:30pm Pacific Time \nWho Should Attend: Environmental professionals\, students\, land managers\, bioenergy researchers\, bio-industry representatives\, Extension professionals\, academic researchers\, and community leaders. \nPresenters: Brian Moser of Rocky Mountain Wildlife Institute and Robert Fletcher from the University of Florida \nSponsored by:   Washington State University Extension with funding from Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Competitive Grant no. 2011-68005-30407 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). \nHow to access the webinar: \nPlease register for the webinar at http://breeze.wsu.edu/wildlife/event/registration.html. \nOn the day of the event\, you can access the webinar at http://breeze.wsu.edu/growinggreen/. \n  \nThis webinar is part of the AHB Hardwood Biofuels Webinar Series. Find the series including archived presentations online at http://hardwoodbiofuels.org/webinars/. \n  \nWant to be notified about future webinars? \nJoin our mailing list at http://hardwoodbiofuels.org/connect-with-ahb/. \n  \nQuestions? Contact Nora Haider nora.haider@wsu.edu | 425-741-9962 \n  \nReasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities and special needs who contact Nora Haider at nora.haider@wsu.edu\, 425-741-9962  at least two weeks prior to the event.
