Wednesday Webinar: How do hybrid poplar trees interact with air pollution? VOCs and regional air quality in bioenergy crops.

May 11, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Poplar trees growing at the Clarksburg demonstration site.

Wednesday, May 11, 2016 | 10:00 am PDT

To attend register at http://docs.google.com/forms/d

Unlike traditional agriculture crops, many emerging bioenergy crops emit significant quantities of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These VOCs, including isoprene, can react with compounds in the atmosphere and lead to the production of ozone in the troposphere. Todd Rosenstiel a professor at Portland State University will share his research evaluating the impact of hybrid poplar on regional air quality and how the location of crop plantings can influence the overall sustainability of these crops.

For more on Dr. Rosenstiel’s research, listen to his guest appearance on Science Friday http://www.sciencefriday.com/segments/plant-emissions-how-do-trees-interact-with-pollution/

Who Should Attend?
Researchers, wood industry representatives, environmental professionals, land-use planners, air quality specialists, community organizers, students, and bioenergy industry representatives.

Presenter: Todd Rosenstiel, Portland State University, Department of Biology PSU Center for Climate and Aerosol Research

Sponsored by: Washington State University Extension with funding from Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) Competitive Grant no. 2011-68005-30407 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).
